- The bakehouse in Benzingen, a suburb of Winterlingen, has existed since 1844.
- Since then, both, the town hall and the bakehouse are located in the same building.
- In 2002, a smoldering fire damaged the bakehouse which could no longer be used.
- Meanwhile, the Benzingen Bakehouse Sponsoring Society has started its work.
- They renovated the bakehouse, installed a new oven in 2017, and the local sports club TSV donated a dough mixer.
- They are still collecting money for the renovation of the second oven.
- The wood-burning oven is heated with wood log that are about one meter long.
- Currently, there are four baking events per year.
- The bakers come from the Bakehouse Sponsoring Society and the Carnival Club.
- In March, a big bread baking event takes place; in June, you can celebrate the Bakehouse Sit-In, and in October everyone visits the “Benzingen Besen”, a fest after the grape harvest.
- In this bakehouse, people mainly bake bread, but also “Speckküchle” (fried yeast pastry with bacon), pizza and Tarte Flambee (a kind of “French pizza” made from a very thin layer of pastry topped with sour cream, chopped onions and bacon).
