- In St Johann-Würtingen, there are two baking houses.
- The central baking house was approved by the public office of Urach in 1939. The previous baking house was a tin hut.
- The baking house Ziegelhütte (“tile hut”) was approved by the public office Urach in 1897.
- Both baking houses have a wood-fired oven.
- Bunches of brushwood and logs are used.
- The baking houses are run by interested people on their own.
- At the central baking house, the baking takes place two to four times per month on average.
- There are 9 baking groups with approx. 20 men and women.
- The baking house Ziegelhütte is almost entirely used by clubs and associations.
- Apart from different kinds of bread, different cakes (onion, sour cream, butter, plum, apple, cheese), cinnamon rolls, brioches, seelen, croissants etc. are baked.
- The clubs and associations bake for different festivities.
- Every other year on a Saturday (next time 2019), the parish organizes the “Open Baking House Day” where all baking houses in St Johann are open and used.
- There are 8 baking houses in St Johann: Gächingen, Lonsingen, Ohnastetten, Upfingen, Würtingen, Ziegelhütte Würtingen and two in Bleichstetten.
