  • The old baking house in St Johann-Upfingen was demolished in 1980 and rebuilt.
  • The parish supplied the material, the clubs and those who want to bake did the building.
  • Every 4 weeks, baking takes place. On Saturday before the baking, lots are drawn for the schedule.
  • 11 groups (each 2-5 people) bake.
  • The baking house has a toilet, corner bench, table and work surface.
  • The wood-fired oven is heated up with brushwood and logs of wood.
  • Every group must bring their own heating material.
  • Apart from baking bread, cakes, tartes and pizza at 340 degrees, bread at 290 – 300 degrees, with the residual heat brioches etc.
  • There are baking lessons, events with the church, kindergarten and associations.
  • In the years without “Open Baking House” day there is a baking house fair in Upfingen. It is organized by the associations.
  • Every other year on a Saturday (next time 2019), the parish organizes the “Open Baking House Day” where all baking houses in St Johann are open and used.
  • There are 8 baking houses in St Johann: Gächingen, Lonsingen, Ohnastetten, Upfingen, Würtingen, Ziegelhütte Würtingen and two in Bleichstetten.

  • Das alte Backhaus in St. Johann-Upfingen wurde 1980 abgerissen und neu gebaut.
  • Die Gemeinde stellte das Material, die Vereine und Backwillige erbrachten die notwendige Arbeitsleistung.
  • Alle 4 Wochen wird gebacken. Am Samstag der Vorwoche entscheidet das Backlos über die Reihenfolge
  • Es backen 11 Gruppen mit 2-5 Personen
  • Das Backhaus hat Toilette, Eckbank, Tisch und Ablageflächen.
  • Der Holzbackofen wird mit Büschele und Holzscheiten beheizt.
  • Jede Gruppe muss ihr Heizmaterial mitbringen.
  • Gebacken werden neben Brot auch Rahmkuchen, Scherrkuchen (Salzkuchen), Pizza bei 340 Grad, Brot bei 290 – 300 Grad, mit der Restwärme dann Hefezöpfe etc
  • Es finden Backkurse statt, Veranstaltungen mit der Kirche, dem Kindergarten und den Vereinen.
  • In den Jahren ohne „Tag des offenen Backhauses“ findet in Upfingen ein Backhaushock statt. Dieser wird von Vereinen organisiert.
  • Alle zwei Jahre an einem Samstag (nächstes Mal 2019) veranstaltet die Gemeinde den „Tag des Offenen Backhauses“, bei dem alle Backhäuser in St. Johann geöffnet und in Betrieb sind.
  • In St. Johann gibt es 8 Backhäuser: in Gächingen, Lonsingen, Ohnastetten, Upfingen, Würtingen, Ziegelhütte Würtingen und zwei in Bleichstetten.
