- The baking house in St Johann has been in use since 1958. The former baking house was derelict and has been replaced.
- The baking house has an electric oven.
- The baking takes place once a week, usually on Friday morning.
- It is run by a baking lady, the dough gets delivered, two women come and help knead the dough.
- There are three fixed baking slots. Increased demand can be coordinated with the baking lady.
- Every year on the first weekend in July, there is a baking house fair which is organised by the citizen’s association.
- Every other year on a Saturday, the parish organises the “Open Baking House Day” where all baking houses in St Johann are open and used.
- Sometimes, there are baking classes for companies or the adult education centre.
- Usually, bread is baked.
- Sometimes, biscuits, sweet pastries, savoury or sweet cakes, during Christmas time fruit loafs (“Stollen”), Hutzelbrot and after New Year’s Day the speciality Mutscheln.
- There are 8 baking houses in St Johann: Gächingen, Lonsingen, Ohnastetten, Upfingen, Würtingen, Ziegelhütte Würtingen and two in Bleichstetten.
