- In St. Johann-Gächingen, there is one baking house.
- The age of the baking house shall be imparted by the baking lady.
- It has two wood-fired ovens; one was repaired 3 years ago.
- To heat it up, bundles of brushwood are used and everyone has to bring their own.
- Baking takes place every 5 – 6 weeks.
- There are 6 – 7 baking groups, each with 3 persons on average.
- Every Wednesday before the baking week, the baking groups meet the baking lady and draw the baking order by lot.
- Baking takes place from Friday to Saturday the week after.
- On request, there are events with schools and kindergartens.
- Every year, on the second weekend in August there is a village fair at the baking house. It is organised by the clubs and associations.
- For big events, there is a dough machine; otherwise the dough must be brought from home.
- Mainly bread is baked, but also salt and onion tarts. Depending on the baking group, wet or floury bread is baked.
- Every other year on a Saturday (next time 2019) the parish organizes the “Open baking house” day where all baking houses in St Johann are open and in use.
- There are 8 baking houses in St Johann: Gächingen, Lonsingen, Ohnastetten, Upfingen, Würtingen, Ziegelhütte Würtingen and two in Bleichstetten.
