In Veştem, near Sibiu (Hermannstadt), Mrs Baciu bakes once a week, usually on a Saturday. The number of breads depends on the order: People from the village as well as from Sibiu kann order bread.
In Holzmengen (Hosman), a village in the area of Sibiu with 790 inhabitants, a traditional wood-oven bakery was installed in the front part of the old mill in 2010. Miss Luijza does a lot of the work by hand, thus getting the best product from the traditional recipes.
Baking bread skill and accuracy and by using many different recipes is Luijza’s favourite occupation, the Holzmengen baking woman: “Each and every moment of my life is connected to the village – I’m working out on the field and come back for baking bread. I learned the craft of baking from my father, and he got it from my grandfather. Therefore it is a craft with a family tradition and I appreciate it very much.”
They sell the bread on the market during the week and on Saturdays on the farmer’s market “Transilvania” in Sibiu.
