- The bakehouse in Unterlenningen has existed since 1900.
- It houses two baking ovens.
- Both are heated with “Krähle” (bundles of brushwood and small branches).
- Presently, four or five families and four local clubs use the bakehouse.
- Once a month is baking time.
- With regard to the local bakery, each club can use the bakehouse once a year only.
- A club’s baking event includes several shifts from three in the morning till 16.00 hrs. 150 bundles of firewood are used to bake about 500 loaves of bread to be sold on such an occasion.
- At this bakehouse loaves called “Genetztes” (loaf surface wetted before baking) are baked; the dough with its wet surface is put into the oven by means of a “Schapf”, a kind of metal ladle with a long handle.
- Every now and then, baking events within the scope of the school holiday program are organized.
- Upon request by the bakehouse custodian the local public services empty the ash container.
