- The bakehouse in Gammelshausen has existed since 1984, its dedication took place on March 31, 1984.
- In earlier times, the building was used as the milk collection place and dairy for the local dairy farmers.
- Then, there were small bakehouses next to the community’s farmsteads.
- The current bakehouse has two ovens which were renewed in 1998.
- They are heated by means of bundles of small branches and “Krähle” (bundles of brushwood).
- Nowadays, only few families use the bakehouse.
- There are about five baking days a month.
- Usually, the products are bread and various sweet as well as savory cakes.
- On the first Saturday in September, the „Backhaushock“, the bakehouse fest takes places, organized by the local countrywomen’s association and the bowling club.
- Within the scope of the holiday program for young students the parishes of Dürnau and Gammelshausen organize two baking courses titled “Baking in a Wood-Burning Oven”.
