- The bakehouse in Aichschiess, a suburb of Aichwald, has existed since the 17th century, probably since 1840. The foundation walls are still original, whereas the other parts of the building have been renovated repeatedly.
- The bakehouse has a wood-burning oven.
- This oven is heated by “Krähle” or “Grähle” (bundles of brushwood and small branches).
- Baking takes place every 6 weeks and on the occasion of local fests.
- The Aichschiess Baking Team consists of three women and one man – all of them senior citizens.
- Baking events are the local street fest, the Bavarian sausage breakfast party of the music orchestra, and the Christmas Market.
- They also had a baking event with handicapped children.
- Mostly, people bake various types of bread (floured, in baking baskets), Tarte Flambee (a kind of “French pizza”: a very thin layer of pastry topped with sour cream, chopped onions and bacon), pizza, the Swabian pizza “Blatz” made from bread dough topped with sour cream, leek and bacon bits, and sometimes even braided yeast bread.
- There is another bakehouse which is no longer used, it was built in 1839.
