On 8th of June 2016 we held our Baking Day at the open fire oven in Halmaj. The local mayor willingly supported our event to share the place with the roma community. During the afternoon we made together the dough for the bread and the scone for the typical Roma bread called „vakaró”. Then we listened a tale together about the bread with a regionally famous storyteller and started a conversation about bread-eating and bread-baking customs, traditions and stories. We enjoyed the whole sunny afternoon under shady walnut-trees, and finally we ate together the bread with fat or butter and vegetables, bacon. This event was also an opportunity for passing the personal baking competences further to the younger Roma women, and also for us, middle-class civil community developers.
