Braided Bread – Sun: Our imagination of Europe is an intertwining of cultures. Different cultures and ethnic groups have been represented by different types of flour. Therefore each of us kneaded a portion of dough for creating long bands. Firstly our intention was to create a basket as we liked the idea of an open and free artwork. Meanwhile we were kneading, thinking and talking we realized the basket could become a sun – a symbol which stands for “warming and growing everything”. We liked the idea to create an “all-receiving” shape that keeps its peculiarities like a big braid where every single hair is recognizable and gives it its consistency. History and geographical background build Europe, considering Europe as a part of the earth we are called to practice peace and stay united without loosing our roots.
